REGIONAL TEAM and JUNIOR TEAM COMPETITION

Congratulation to the South Central skiers who contributed to 1st place awards in both Region Team and Junior Team slalom competition.  In addition to slalom, Region Team placed 3rd in Tricks, 4th in Jumping and 3rd Overall;
 Junior Team placed  4th in Tricks, 2nd in Jumping and 2nd Overall.

If you zero a pass in tricks you FALL into a Select Group

It can happen in any event including slalom but probably more often in trick and jump. 
Here are some facts from the 2006 AWSA National Tournament scorebook in tricks:
9% of the trick skiers at nationals (26 of 286) scored a 0 in the first or second pass (it was 12% at the SCR Regional tournament). 
Of that group 77% fell at the beginning of their SECOND pass.  Now, think about that: 20 of 26 skiers fell, more often than not, or their opening toe trick.
Six skiers from the SCR were in this select group, 3 of the 6 were from Houston!! 
Each of the regions shared just about equally in donating skiers to this esteemed group. The highest scoring first pass was 3110 pts.  
Almost twice as many males (17) achieved the honor across 9 of the 13 age divisions versus 9 females in only 3 age divisions (Girls 1, 2, & 3).  Now, that is a significant gender difference.  Just picture the speculation here:  females are more cautious while the male is aggressive and a risk-taker.  Note that none of the women divisions contributed to the group, only the girls whereas the males covered age divisions from B1 through M10. 
Are the women more practiced and more judicious in their selection of opening tricks??  Well…., you be the judge!!
