WSTIMS
2009 release now available
2 June, 2009 |
The 2009 release of
WSTIMS
Release 3.56 is now finalized and available
for download now and usage.
IMPORTANT -- there are a couple of important
differences this year that will affect just about everybody using
WSTIMS, so be sure to review the
"What's New" material in the User Guide.
There are several changes that affect all officials; judges, scorers,
drivers, and all others and how results and information they will need
to begin inputting into WSTIMS. It is of the utmost important that
scorers should be entering all their officials in each event as this is
how USA Waterski will be getting their information on what officials get
credit. The WSTIMS reporting is now all paperless.
All officials need to
familiarize themselves with the 2009 changes that are in WSTIMS
3.56
What's New Section.

3-SEGMENT JUMP TIMING WITH
PERFECT PASS
|
The following sentence has been added to paragraph 9.09 in the 2009
edition of the AWSA rule book (Jump Section): Timing
will be required to be recorded in three segments of 52m, 30m, and 41m;
however, two segment timing will be controlling.
This means as boat judges we will be submitting 3 times from the boat
for each jump attempt and the scorers will be recording the times.
WSTIMS will compute the addition of the first two segments and report
just two times. The reasoning for all of this can be found on the USA-WS
website.
If you are using Zero Off (ZO) as the speed control system this will be
easy with the existing course set-up. With Perfect Pass Stargazer
(PPSG), set as described below, it will also be easy with the existing
course set-up. If you are using Perfect Pass Classic you will need to
add an additional set of buoys to your course. Be smart, use ZO or PPSG.
Jerry Bautsch describes how to set your boat to use PPSG:
Stargazer, when in the single magnet mode for slalom and jump, only
requires a magnet to start the timing course. When in the multi magnet
mode, it needs all the magnets for timing in both slalom and jump
events. In single magnet mode for jump, the 3 segment times will be
recorded but not in multi magnet mode.
PP Classic does not have the capability to record 3 segment times and
requires magnets at each set of gates to time. So PP Classic is similar
to Stargazer in multi magnet mode. It needs to be stressed that
Stargazer should be used in single magnet mode in order to record 3
segment jump times and to minimize the number of needed magnets.

NO
OFFICIALS’ DOWNGRADES IN 2009
By Traci Baylon, Competition Services Coordinator
8 April, 2009 |
All AWSA EVP’s and Officials’ -- After much thought and discussion, USA
Water Ski has decided to postpone Officials’ Downgrades for 2009. No
official will be downgraded this spring; however, we will be calculating
downgrades for 2010 this fall. Notifications will be sent to all
officials in danger of downgrade in late November or early December.
These will include all Judges, Drivers, Scorers for AWSA.
Due to the high cost of mailing the downgrade notices, Headquarters
solicited their programmer to create an automated Officials downgrade
notification process whereby an e-mail would be sent to each official in
jeopardy of downgrade directing them to log into the “Members-Only”
section to view their downgrade report. However, Headquarters felt that
it was too late in the year to allow adequate time for programming and
testing of the system. As a result, we have decided to postpone the
downgrades for 2009.
Please be on the lookout for some exciting information for Officials
coming soon in a future issue of the USA Water Ski E-Blast!!
If you have any questions, please contact
Traci Baylon, Competition
Services Coordinator

It’s Here; the 2009 SCR
Regional Guide |
|
This is a FIRST, an all-electronic guide for your downloading. It is
in color and the arrangement is new; basically the Regional information
is first with other “national” items and other reference material in the
second half. There
are applications for Assistant Judge, Scorer, Driver, Safety and TC. |
|
There are instructions on how to complete the paperwork for a national
record in addition to a regional record. Open and Masters Men
qualifications are there as well. We tried to think of any reference
material that might be needed at a tournament.
You
can download portions, the whole package or very select pages.
Check the list of tournaments on page SC5. This was current as of
13 March. For the most current and COMPLETE list
go to:
Tournament Search. These sanctioning pages have all of the
details about the tournaments including the contact. These sanctioning
pages have all of the details about the tournaments including the
contact. |

2009 SCR GUIDE The download size for the whole Guide is 10
MB. With a DSL or cable Internet connection, the download time will be
less than 30 seconds. If you are
on dial-up I would remind you that this is the 21st century!
Once the .PDF file has opened, you can save the file to your hard drive,
print any pages you may want to have handy. Comment, corrections, criticisms are all acceptable.

AWSA Nationals in 2010 – Dare we say
it - on 2 lakes?
By
Brandon Wolf, USAWATERSKI
March 5, 2009 |
Can’t be done – too long! And so the comments went when we shifted from
a four to a three lake site for the AWSA National Tournament in 2006-07.
There were no other options because there were no other bids. But we did
it and it only took one extra day – a sixth. Now here we are at another
crossroads. AWSA has no bids for the 2010 Nationals from any site at the
moment, let alone a 3-plus lake site.
Oh no,
a two lake site….can’t be done; WAY too long! But it can be done. The
numbers were crunched, and the areas where time can be saved were noted.
The tournament can be completed in seven days. It just takes some
concentration on eliminating the “gap” times and making some other
managerial tweaks that show great potential.
Do you
have a knack for some adventure? Do you live on a two lake site that is
accessible? Are there some good hotels nearby? Is there a center levee
from which we can direct the activities? Bidding is an email exercise
and you start by contacting
Brandon Wolf.
This
can be done and your club may become legendary as the first site to host
a National Tournament on a two lake site in the 21st Century! You can do
it; talk it up!

By Jerry Bautsch, Boat Drivers Committee,
30 January 2009 |
We will be seeing PPSG as well as ZO in tournaments
this year. All 2009 boats will have only ZO but there are quite a few
2008 promos that have not sold and may be used to pull tournaments this
year. PP will probably have an update to their system for this year as
well as ZO having a new version Q that will have 9 settings in slalom.
Hopefully between all these updates there will be less complaints from
the skiers of differences in the 2 systems

HOW TO SANCTION YOUR
2009 TOURNAMENTS |
1. Please consider that 31 January 2009
is your target date for having all of your club’s tournaments sanctioned
via the online event
registration process.
2. On the last form of the online sanctioning process you will
see a paragraph telling you about your Regional sanction fee. This fee
is the substitute for the Tournament Announcement fee which has now been
discontinued. This paragraph tells you how to complete the check and
where to send it.
3. For all of the background information please read the
following .pdf article: “Regional Sanction fees – vs – Tournament

2008 Regional Records go to the “over
30” Crowd
By Bob Mayhew, EVP 11 November 2008 |
| Well, not all of the new records went
to the over 30 crowd, but six of the 10 did and the rest went to
Brittany Greenwood and Tyler Scott. Terry Hanson, Bob Mayhew,
Margaret Ann Woodard, Don Butcher and Chad Scott all bumped existing
records that they held a few more notches. |
 |
However, Paul Armour
(Men 5) is new to the current list and has pushed the Men V jump
record out there to 134 ft, a performance from the Princeton Jump
Fest in September.
Talent for these performances lies within all of us and is
expressed, sometimes, at unanticipated moments. Carl Peterson
(Men 9) did not come to Nationals this year with the intent on
winning the slalom event (and overall) but he was definitely on his
game at that tournament. I was the boat judge for his slalom event
and he started
the
set anticipating a score less than the final result. But, he would
get in the course and just keep turning around the buoys in
text-book fashion. It was at the end of each pass where you knew
that he had not planned for this many passes – think “blue lips.”
“Carl, we’ve got to go” I would say, “take a deep breath” and he
would score 6 more buoys. It was a memorable session. |
Check out the updated
Regional Record Listing; your name could be there next year.
